Lorena is one of the "old players" in transportation in Indonesia. Founded on September 9, 1970, by G.T. Soerbakti who took inspiration from his son's name, Eka Sari Lorena Soerbakti, Lorena Bus now serves more than 60 cities in Java, Bali, and Sumatra. Initially, it took 3 years for Lorena to officially operate and serve the short inter-provincial (AKAP) route Bogor-Jakarta via Cibinong, relying on two Mercedes-Benz bus services. PO Lorena is listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange and, in 2003, has received ISO 9001: 2000 certificate. Lorena was the first bus operator to meet international standards for a quality management system successfully. Lorena also won the Best Land Transportation & Depot Management Award in DKI Jakarta from the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, the 2002 Golden Asia Award for Excellence in Hong Kong, the 2002 International Transportation Award in Belgium, and the lifetime achievement award in the field of road transportation from the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia in 2011.
