The Putra Pelangi bus company was founded in Aceh City in the 90s. This bus operator developed under the management of CV Pelangi. After experiencing progress, the autobus company separated itself from CV Pelangi to become PT Putra Pelangi Perkasa.

Entering 2021, the company is opening transportation services on the Aceh and Medan routes. Over time, this route expanded to Java Island.

During operation, this bus operating company's fleet uses buses with Scania K410 IB engines and chassis. Apart from that, the Putra Pelangi bus also uses a Mercedes Benz OC 500 RF-2542 type vehicle which has a Jetliner body. The body is made by Rahayu Santosa bodywork.

Now, thanks to its commitment and consistency in excellent service, Putra Pelangi Medan has won the Transportation Safety award. The award was given by the Ministry of Transportation in 2015.
